Background of ON7FU products.
What started in the beginning of the “eighties”, as a favor for friends and colleagues, has over the years turned into such a success, that we decided to make the products available commercially for a wider public.
Indeed, some HAM’s know and use early prototypes of ON7FU BALUNs for over 35 years now. So long we’re building experience with these devices.
Several radio amateurs have been able to solve their interference problems using our products.
Having learnt the benifits of potting techniques when developing Colour TV High Voltage Tripplers, in the early eighties we were the first to apply potting methods to amateur radio balun designs.
In the mean time, some others have “learnt” from us.
Nowadays, we are still trying to improve the mechanical and electrical performance of our products.
Continuously new types are built and tested.
All BALUNs and RF transformers are individually checked on a professional HP Vector Network Analyzer.
What differentiates ON7FU BALUNs, UNUNs and RF Transformers from other, apparently similar “of the shelf” products?
Their construction and ratings:
ON7FU BALUNs are built in solid weather resistant enclosures, and are potted / coated with a synthetic resin, having excellent RF, electrical insulation and mechanical properties.
The resin additionally ensures anchoring of the connection terminals and coaxial connectors, and stabilizes the internal parts and wiring.
In this way, total weatherproofing as well as electrical and mechanical superior properties are achieved.
All products are rated very conservatively, taking in account the harshest operating conditions and they can, under heavy loaded amateur radio use withstand the power specified with a safe margin.
All parts employed are of the highest quality standards available on the professional market. (i.e. Teflon insulated connectors and wiring, Stainless Steel hardware , UL 508A heavy industry grade certified polycarbonate tamper proof and extremely strong enclosures).
The latter ensures long life and high reliability, in contrast to the many cheap commercial products offered “off the shelf”, using amateur grade parts and weak ABS plastic enclosures.
As an additional service, on request custom made variants and personalized test reports can be supplied.
Mission Statement.
Being active in RF equipment development, EMC testing and safety certification for over 35 years, it has always been our mission to share the academic and practical experience acquired with the HAM radio community.
In today’s world, dominated by digital electronics and networks it is challenging more than ever before to bring an HF signal in the ether or receive a weak HF signal without facing interference into and from these devices.
Operating in the HF frequency range became much more than just putting a wire in the air and firing it with some RF current.
Basic knowledge of antenna and transmission line behavior has never been more important and needed.
Not everybody can be an RF expert.
Therefore, in a number of cases, assistance is more than welcome.
As antenna specialists often say, “it’s difficult to ensure that an antenna radiates efficiently, but it’s even more difficult to ensure that the feedline and ancillary equipment don’t “.
This is where we can jump in with hints and advice.
Providing effective BALUNs and RF isolators is part of our service.
You are welcome to request assistance for every interference related issue, whether it is your intention to purchase our products or not.
We are always prepared to free up time to help.
We do not have to claim that we’re supplying products to the military and the marine, to be taken seriously.
The many interference cases we’ve solved and the many hundreds of products we’ve placed on the market over the years, speak for themselves.
What we’re doing, we’re doing correctly; technologically, commercially, deontologically, legally, and with passion and true “HAM spirit”.
